PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM

OLIVE GREEN IMMIGRATION

PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM

The Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) allows Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their parents and grandparents for permanent residency in Canada. Successful applicants may later apply for Canadian citizenship. The program opens once a year and operates on a lottery system with a first-come, first-served approach. Interested families must submit an online expression of interest, and 10,000 applicants are randomly selected. Those chosen must submit a complete application within 90 days of receiving their invitation.

HOW THIS PROGRAM WORKS

Step 1: Submit an Interest to Sponsor Form
Eligible sponsors must submit an Interest to Sponsor form online. This form is typically available in October or November each year.

Step 2: Invitation to Apply
After the submission deadline:

IRCC reviews all entries and removes duplicate submissions.

A random lottery selection is conducted.

Selected applicants receive an invitation via email and can check their status on the IRCC website.

Step 3: Submit a Complete Application
If selected, you must submit your full sponsorship application package before the deadline stated in your invitation.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

To sponsor your parents or grandparents under the Family Class, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old.

  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.

  • Meet minimum income requirements for the past three consecutive years (income from a spouse or common-law partner can be included).

  • Provide financial support for the sponsored person and their dependents.

  • Submit Notices of Assessment from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) as proof of income.

  • Sign a sponsorship agreement, committing to financially support the sponsored person for up to 20 years.
