POST-GRADUATION WORK PERMIT PROGRAM

The Post-Graduation Work Permit Program (PGWPP) allows international students who graduate from eligible Canadian Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs) to gain valuable work experience in Canada. This experience can help graduates qualify for permanent residence through the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) under Express Entry.

Duration of the Work Permit:

  • Less than 8 months – Not eligible for a PGWP.

  • 8 months to less than 2 years – Permit length equals the duration of the study program.

  • 2 years or more – Eligible for a 3-year PGWP.

  • Multiple programs – May qualify for a combined PGWP based on program lengths.

Eligibility Requirements:

To apply for a PGWP, you must:

  • Have a valid study permit within the last 180 days.

  • Hold a valid visitor record (if applicable).

  • Have applied for a study permit extension before expiry, with no decision yet.

  • Have applied to change your status to a visitor before study permit expiry, with no decision yet.

  • Have completed a program of at least 8 months at a DLI, leading to a degree, diploma, or certificate.

  • Maintain full-time student status throughout the study program.

  • Apply within 180 days of receiving official documents (degree, diploma, or transcripts).
