STUDY VISA APPLICATION

Canada is a top destination for international students, offering world-class universities, cutting-edge research, and an inclusive environment. A study permit allows foreign nationals to study at Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs) in Canada. Most students must apply for a study permit before traveling to Canada.

INTAKES IN CANADIAN UNIVERSITIES

  • Fall Intake – September to December

  • Winter Intake – January to April

  • Summer Intake – May to August

Eligibility Requirements:

To qualify for a study permit, you must:

  • Be enrolled in a Designated Learning Institution (DLI).

  • Provide a Provincial or Territorial Attestation Letter.

  • Show proof of sufficient funds for tuition, living expenses, and return transportation.

  • Have no criminal record (a police certificate may be required).

  • Be in good health (a medical exam may be required).

  • Convince an immigration officer that you will leave Canada when your study permit expires.

Student Responsibilities While Studying in Canada:

  • Make progress towards completing your program.

  • Follow conditions listed on your study permit.

  • Stop studying if you no longer meet the eligibility requirements.

Study Permit Extension:

You may need to extend your study permit if you wish to continue your studies.

When to Apply:

  • Apply at least 30 days before your current permit expires.

  • Ensure your passport is valid beyond the extension period.

  • If applying before expiry, you can stay in Canada under the same conditions until a decision is made.

  • If your study permit expires while traveling outside Canada, you must apply for a new one before returning.

 

Early or Late Completion of Studies:

  • If you finish earlier than expected, your permit expires 90 days after completion or on the original expiry date, whichever comes first.

  • If you need more time, apply for an extension at least 30 days before the original expiry date.

 

Restoring Your Student Status:

  • If your study permit expires before applying for an extension, you lose your student status but may restore it if you:

  • Apply within 90 days of losing your status.

  • Still meet all eligibility requirements.

  • Followed all conditions listed on your permit.

  • Pay the restoration fee.
