CANADIAN EXPERIENCE CLASS 
(EXPRESS ENTRY)

The Canadian Experience Class is for skilled workers who have Canadian work experience and want to become permanent residents.

HOW THIS PROGRAM WORKS

This program has minimum requirements for:

  • skilled work experience in Canada

  • language ability

You must meet all the minimum requirements to be eligible.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

1.⁠ ⁠Skilled Work Experience
You must have at least one year of full-time (or equivalent part-time) skilled work experience in Canada within the last three years. This can be met through:

  •  Full-time work at one job (30 hours/week for 12 months = 1,560 hours)

  • Part-time work (e.g., 15 hours/week for 24 months = 1,560 hours)

  • Full-time work at multiple jobs (combined 30 hours/week for 12 months = 1,560 hours)


Your work experience must be:

  • Legally obtained while on a valid work permit.

  • In a skilled occupation under the National Occupational Classification (NOC) TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3.


Not eligible if:

  • You worked without authorization.

  • You gained work experience without temporary resident status (e.g., refugee claimants).


2.⁠ ⁠Language Ability

  • You must take an approved language test in English or French for:

    •  Writing, Reading, Listening, Speaking

  • Minimum required scores:

    • CLB 7 for TEER 0 or 1 jobs, CLB 5 for TEER 2 or 3 jobs

Language tests are valid for two years and must be valid on the date you apply.

3.⁠ ⁠Education (Optional for Higher Express Entry Ranking)
There is no education requirement for the CEC, but you can improve your Express Entry score by:

  • Canadian education: A certificate, diploma, or degree from a recognized secondary or post-secondary institution.

  • Foreign education: An Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) confirming that your foreign credential is equivalent to a Canadian secondary or post-secondary qualification.
